Join TV’s Dr Dawn Harper on new charity bike ride for women

Dr Dawn Harper from hit Channel 4 TV show Embarrassing Bodies will swap swabs for the saddle this May when she joins cyclists for a new women’s bike ride to raise money for children’s charity Action Medical Research.

The DIVA100 Warwickshire ride will set out from Menzies Welcombe Hotel Spa and Golf Club in Stratford-upon-Avon on Sunday 27 May. Supported by leading bike brand Trek, the event will offer a choice of two circular countryside routes – a 100km challenge or a shorter 50km course for those looking to take it a little bit easier.

The ride will raise money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Especially close to Dr Dawn’s heart is the work the charity supports around pregnancy complications and premature birth as two of her three children were born early, her youngest son at just 32 weeks. Action Medical Research is also currently supporting work around meningitis, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, premature birth and some very rare conditions that severely affect children.

Gaby Roslin supports Action Medical Research's Mums on the Run 5k event

Television presenter Gaby Roslin is encouraging mums to join the Mums on the Run 5k for children’s charity Action Medical Research on 16 September. Gaby is a mum herself, and a supporter of the charity’s work around tackling premature birth and treating sick and vulnerable babies.

Gaby says, “What a great idea! A 5k run is the perfect distance for new runners. Get yourself in shape, bring the kids along to see you in action and know you’ve helped sick babies and children at the same time. Good luck mums!”

The run is open to all women - mothers or not, and will take a scenic route through the gardens and surrounding grounds of beautiful Waddesdon Manor country house in Buckinghamshire. The location also has a woodland playground, gardens and an aviary which the whole family can enjoy as they cheer on the runners. The charity’s mascot Paddington Bear will also be at the event to entertain younger supporters!

Registration fees are £20 and participants will also need to commit to raise a minimum sponsorship of £60 - £1 for each of Action Medical Research’s 60 years!

McCalling all women to get on their bikes for DIVA 100

Davina McCall is asking women of all ages to get on their bikes and join one of three all-girl bike rides taking place across the UK this May to raise vital funds for children’s charity Action Medical Research. Called the DIVA 100 series, there is a choice of three event locations – Sussex, Warwickshire and Scotland – and Davina herself will be taking part in the Sussex ride.
Supported by leading bike brand Trek, each DIVA 100 ride offers a choice of two stunning countryside routes – a 100km challenge or a shorter 50km course for those looking to take it a little bit easier.
Davina, presenter of The Biggest Loser on ITV1, as well as The Million Pound Drop and Got to Dance, says: “People may be used to seeing me on the telly but I can also be regularly spotted out and about on my bike. Yes, believe it or not, I’m a dedicated convert to road cycling and I’m passionate about encouraging more women to take to the saddle. I think it’s one of the most amazing cardiovascular workouts you can get and it exercises parts of your body that other exercises can’t reach!
